[CASE STUDY] 9 month progress with The FAI Fix

 Andre B. 9 Month Progress

Andre came to us 9 months ago with pretty severe hip impingement and range of motion restrictions (picture on the left.) He followed The FAI Fix program and the results are what you see above.

In this post I want to dissect what Andre did right and what he can do to continue improving.

What Andre Did Right

  • Andre used a system. The TSR System to be exact. Rather than trying to combine Yoga classes with random YouTube exercises, he followed a process designed to fix a specific problem.
  • Andre asks for help. Not only did he seek us out at The FAI Fix but he also hired a knowledgable personal trainer to help him with his exercise form. Not everyone can do this, but Andre evaluated his priorities and felt it was worth the cost.
  • Andre is methodical. He takes notes, tracks progress and asks his coaches for input.

He sent me the following email (screenshot below). Can you see his attention to detail?

  • Andre experiments. Andre is open to trying anything...even counter-intuitive exercises. Following a system is key, but so is exploration. Andre lets his own intuition guide him and isn't afraid to explore.
  • Andre is consistent. Even though he has a job, girlfriend and busy life – he makes time for working on his body almost every day.
  • Andre stays positive. On the journey out of major hip impingement problems, the future can seem very bleak. I know...I've been there. Andre has his moments of doubt, but maintains a positive attitude. This is a huge advantage for him.

What Andre Can Improve

Andre is not perfect. None of us are. There are still plenty of areas for him to improve. Based on several Skype calls and in-person meetings I've tasked him with concentrating on improving in the following areas:

  • Hamstring tissue density (his hamstrings are full of knots.)
  • Continue making progress with quad tissue density and deep hip rotator trigger points.
  • Glute / hamstring activation and coordination in various ranges (this is important for people with FAI to be able to do during movements like RDL's and rack pulls.)
  • Practice the skill of relaxation. Andre (like most people) could improve in his ability to voluntarily turn his nervous system on and off. This is something advanced athletes and people who have been stretching for a long time are good at. The ability to "off-switch" in an instant will make all of Andre's tissue work and stretching 2-3x more effective.
  • Find a skilled manual therapist to help soften up his tissues. Much like finding a skilled personal trainer to teach better movement, a skilled manual therapist can accelerate your progress with restoring normal tissue quality.

Is this everything for Andre? Of course not. Taking care of your body is a life-long journey. It took me several years of dedicated work to get my hips to where they are today.

Overall, Andre is a remarkable example of what the right approach combined with dedicated effort can accomplish. We are honored to help him on his journey.

Andre uses the FAI Fix program which includes over 66 exercises, the TSR Tracker ebook and a private member website. Learn more below...
