The Day You Became Flexible
The Day You Became Flexible
I went from being inflexible to flexible after learning one trick from a 90-day "personal productivity course." I couldn’t believe how simple it was. I’ll tell you the trick here so you don’t have to waste 90 days.
Flexibility comes down to consistency (don't worry...this is not the trick.) Consistency on a bad plan will give better results than inconsistency on a perfect plan. In other words you've got to show up and get it done.
Does this seem too simple? It is. Don’t fight it.
Simple doesn't mean easy. Simple is actually hard. It's not sexy. It's not sophisticated. It just works. If you actually worked on your flexibility for 3-5 hours per week, for the next 3-5 months, you'd get much more flexible.
What are you supposed to do during that 3-5 hours? It doesn't matter. Well, not as much as you think. Stretch. Do myofascial release. Do both. We have some good programs you can follow here. There are plenty of other resources too. Don't try to find the perfect program. Pick one and start now. Stick with it.
Oh yeah, I was going to tell you my trick...
"Inevitability Thinking"
Inevitability thinking is asking yourself the question "How could I make the outcome that I want to have happen inevitable?"
"What are the conditions / structures I need to put in place that make it guaranteed that I will get where I want to be."
A few good ideas are:
Inevitability Factors:
- Coach / accountability partner
- Consequences / rewards
- Social pressure (the good kind)
- Money on the line
- The right environment
- ...etc
If you are an action-taker, here's what you're going to do: Find a teacher, pick a program and promise a friend that you are going to do your flexibility program 3-5 hours per week for the next 3 months. If you miss a day you will pay a price (punishment). Rewards are good too (the carrot and the stick.)
See how many of these "inevitability factors" you can layer / stack to create "super inevitability."
Personally, my favorite is to promise my friend that I will BURN a $10 bill for every day I miss. I rarely miss days. I like to reward my self with a 90 minute massage.
That’s it. You just learned 80% of the rules for getting flexible. You’re welcome.
Statistically, something like 90% of people will read this and think "that's interesting", and then do nothing. Don't be one of those people.
- Pick a plan
- Make a promise
- Add a consequence and reward
- Don't deviate.
